My secret guitar tuning:
On the early stuff I usually tuned all the guitar stings a 4th apart (low to high) E-A-D-G-C-F which was pretty cool to do bluesy riffs and 2 finger I-V bar chords anywhere on the guitar neck with the same 2 finger position.
Then I figured out somewhere along the way if I tuned the strings a 5th apart I could play the I-V bar chords with just one finger. However it was hard to tune the high E string with a the strings a 5th apart and it didn’t sound good tuned past F#. So, I sort of combined the drop D tuning with open G and came up with (low to high) C-G-D-A-C#-E, which gave me the 3 low strings a 5th apart with open A major chord on the high strings.
It took a while to transpose to the new tuning and getting used to where the notes were now, but now I have trouble playing any other way. It is a bit of a stretch to reach a flat 3rd on the low strings so sometimes for older songs, it is easier to go back to the 4th apart tuning and is still fun to play but I always go back to the 5th apart tuning. it is super easy and anyone can sound like a pro using just one finger!
